"The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men,
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!"

"The best laid schemes of Mice and Men,
oft go awry,
And leave us nothing but grief and pain,
For promised joy!"
~ Robert Burns.
This was meant to be a dedicated week of packing up the command pod and relocating my base of operations to the other side of town. Things were organised and brave volunteers and their larger than normal vehicles (usually used for carting around film making equipment) were on standby. My brain was psyched up and ready for this occasion - as by nature, I do not typically enjoy the rigours of moving house.
However, as it always seems to happen when I plan something personally momentous, the call to boom arms is rallied and everything has to be put on hold until a better time. Not that I'm complaining - as I love to be out for a good film-making session with awesome crew, but I have to wonder at times why it is that everything seems to happen all at once.
This week / next weeks adventure is off to Broome in northern Western Australia. It'll be my very first time there and for many years I have thought to myself that it sounds like a great place for me to visit. Much like my other adventures, it is in the name of recording sounds - so I know that my time to lounge around and soak in the scenery will be non-existent, however as per usual the production company has assembled a great crew, all individuals that I have worked with before and get along really well with, thus, as much as there'll be lots of work induced sweating - I'm going to be having a great time indeed.
I know I'll get there in the end, all is not lost. Soon I will be sitting around in my very own spacious, "subterranean" dwelling, rubbing my hands together with frustration for having no shoots on and all of the time in the world to sit around and contemplate my surroundings...
